Our physiotherapy treatment for neck pain addresses a variety of conditions.
These are some of the more common causes that we treat.

Musculoskeletal Problems

Common causes of neck pain include conditions that affect the muscles, bones, facet joints, joints and soft tissues in the neck.
Common examples are mechanical neck pain (often from poor posture, muscle spasm or neck strain), neck muscle strain, spinal stenosis, bone spurs, whiplash injuries, osteoarthritis, and cervical spondylosis.

Nerve-Related or Nerve Root Conditions

These involve issues with the nerves that travel through the spine from neck to back.
Examples might range from pinched nerve roots to more severe conditions such as cervical radiculopathy (an inflamed/damaged nerve root in the cervical spine). This is typically where the spinal nerve root is involved or even spinal infection in the nerve root.

Referred Pain

Sometimes, pain in the neck can actually originate from elsewhere.
For instance, heart conditions, gallbladder disease, or certain musculoskeletal disorders can cause referred neck pain. In this case, the neck pain is a symptom instead of the condition itself.
Unsure if your problem can be solved with our physiotherapy?
Contact us today if you are experiencing neck pain or stiffness so we can provide the right advice.
That ache in your neck (especially when it is a sudden and severe pain), can sometimes indicate more serious issues with the cervical spinal cord or spinal canal. We strongly advise that you do not ignore any form of neck pain or discomfort.

The Phoenix Process: Feel Reborn with Our Proven Methodology

Step 1: Initial Consultation

At Phoenix Rehab, we firmly believe in creating a low-stress, patient-centric environment.

Our spine and neck pain physios will work closely with you to address your symptoms and concerns; our goal is to help you understand your condition before proceeding with any form of treatment, ensuring you can make an informed decision.

We will have to determine whether the pain in your neck is caused by a new injury, or whether it's chronic pain (or both, which is when chronic neck pain underlies a new neck sprain or strain), or if it's a mechanical neck pain or a nerve-related one, or both.

Our consultations aim to create an atmosphere of trust and open communication so that you can feel secure with our senior physical therapists.

Step 2: In-depth Review

Next, our physiotherapist will begin an in-depth review of your medical history to fully understand your neck pain and symptoms, lifestyle and health goals.

Beyond answering our questions, you may be required to bring medical reports or referral forms.

This is a crucial step in forming a customised treatment plan that accounts for the patient's past and current medical issues, underlying conditions, or potential problems that may arise in the future.

Step 3: Assessment

Based on your review, we'll conduct clinical tests and physical assessments to gauge the severity of your condition.

We'll need to do a physical examination which will include palpating and testing your neck muscles, and back muscles.

We will assess if there's poor posture and if there's anything wrong with your neck bones or nerves or other soft tissues (or even neck strain) that can contribute to your neck pain.

Furthermore, we will check your neck movements, movements and sensations in your upper back and spinal column, and attempt to rule out similar-but-different conditions such as cervical spondylosis, bone spurs, facet joint syndrome, herniated disc or any other issues in your intervertebral discs.

This helps us rule out potential underlying causes or safety concerns and get your neck pain diagnosed accurately, ensuring that we can reduce pain or relieve pain in the neck for you as early as possible.

We're committed to providing safe and effective treatments that solve health issues without causing adverse side effects.

If we think that you need to be referred to a spinal surgeon or orthopaedic surgeon for an MRI scan, we'd let you know and refer you to our most trustable spinal surgeons who work closely to accelerate your neck pain and stiffness recovery process.

Step 4: Treatment

Based on our findings, we'll discuss a customised plan of action with you to help you reach your treatment goals. Most patients can receive treatment within the same session!

We are committed to providing comprehensive treatment for your neck and back issues, including addressing the muscles, ligaments, and supporting structures that may be strained due to compensatory movements. In addition to addressing any painful or sore areas, our approach goes beyond symptom management. Our primary goal is to identify and address the root cause of your prolonged neck pain.

While we understand that pain relief is often a top priority for our patients, we also emphasize the importance of addressing the underlying problem. We work diligently to reduce pain in your neck as quickly as possible while simultaneously focusing on improving the structures that contribute to or exacerbate your neck pain.

In our treatment plan, we may also concentrate on strengthening the postural muscles to promote good posture. This can not only help prevent neck pain but also alleviate existing discomfort.

Additionally, we may provide treatment for your upper back and shoulders as they play a crucial role in supporting the neck. By addressing these areas, we can offer comprehensive care and optimize your overall musculoskeletal health.

Your neck pain specialist will carry out ongoing observation each time you return for your follow-up sessions.

This allows us to determine your progress and adjust the intensity of our treatment to support you along your recovery journey.
