Back Pain Strain Physiotherapy
Back Pain and Strain, and How Proper Physiotherapy Management Can Help

Back pain can be very, very, very painful and disruptive to our daily routine and lifestyle. We’ve seen and treated patients with back injury with such pain and discomfort that they're confined to their homes (or beds) for days and weeks.

Unfortunately, statistically, 60% of adults suffer from back pain. That's a whopping six in ten adults! Of these six, three of them become worse: they develop long-term (chronic) back pain where the pain continues to hurt and disrupt them for months and years.

We have senior physiotherapists who specialize in spinal injuries and pain, and we want patients who suffer from back injuries and pains to be fully healed and to go back to their own lives and activities, pain free.

Some guiding principles and questions before starting spinal physiotherapy:

1. What is the exact cause of the back pain?

  • What does the X-Ray, CT Scan or MRI say?
  • Is it muscles, ligaments, joints or even inflammation?

2. Does the patient have a risk to back injury/pain because of

  • Lifestyle and daily postural habits?
  • Muscle imbalances that led to the condition over time?

What can spine physiotherapy do for you?

1. Unrushed, painless and one-to-one physiotherapy always - this is an absolute requirement to high-quality care and clinical outcomes (ie decrease pain)

2. Help patient to manage the pain first by

  • providing ultrasound therapy to accelerate localized soft tissue healing
  • muscle electrical stimulation to decrease muscle spasms
  • soft tissue management to decrease swelling and inflammation
  • cold compression to decrease muscle spasms and localized swelling
  • computerized traction to stretch out spasmic muscles THEN

3. Work on the main back pain problems, which are often a combination of weak core muscles as a result of poor postural habits or sedentary lifestyle that accumulated damage over the years by doing

  • core strengthening exercises such as Clinical Pilates
  • improving muscle balance
  • ergonomics: modifying your workplace/home layout to have a more back-friendly approach
