Tui Na is a complete healing technique
approach, which is similar to acupuncture and of course Chinese herbal medicine.
“Tui Na” means to “push and grasp”
and it aims to establish a more balanced and harmonious flow of Qi through hands-on TCM massage as well as hand
manipulation techniques that are applied on different pressure points on the body
to heal itself naturally.
techniques of Tui Na and the details of its applications and uses in treating a range of
health problems are documented in a vast treatise, which includes the Yellow
Emperor's Classics of Internal Medicine (this ancient text is written about 2500 years ago!)
After thousands of years of improvement, development and of course,
evolution, the urban / modern tui na of today is the most up-to-date
version with so much trials, testing and updates in the whole world.
Generally, TCM tui na can be divided into two groups:
- tui na for relaxation (wellness massage)
- tui na for treating specific conditions (healing therapy)
Phoenix Rehab, we provide both but moreso on healing therapy tui na
first to repair all the conditions and injuries and pains that patients
have, and after that is resolved, then only can we progress to tui na
for relaxation and wellness.
What does Therapeutic TCM Tuina treats?
Therapeutic TCM tui na focuses and specializes in treating both acute (new) pain as well as chronic pain, with particular emphasis on muscle, joint and skeletal conditions and injuries.
Conditions that responds well with therapeutic TCM tui na includes:
- neck pain
- back pain
- low back pain
- knee pain
- shoulder pain
- golfer's elbow
- tennis elbow
- ankle sprains
That being said, it
is impossible to treat a specific condition with just tui na
We need to also improve the overall Qi energy status of the body.
By doing that, by extension, our TCM physician can also treat conditions such as
- irritable bowel syndrome
How is tui na done?
TCM tui na is done with patients placed resting (based on where the
injury is located - if we have to access their back, then patients need
to be lying face down) on a treatment bed.
Usually, our senior TCM physician will
clinically assess and interview first to understand
your full clinical history, symptoms and condition, followed with a
physical / hands-on assessment to confirm the conditions and diagnoses.
on the conditions of the individuals and the individuals themselves,
tui na may be done in combination with other TCM techniques such as
To prevent over-stimulation of the injured area, we cannot provide tui
na more than 20-30 minutes, so we will combine with synergistic TCM like
acupuncture for the healing to be more extensive.
the specific TCM procedures that will be prescribed and administered to you will
depend entirely on the clinical assessment and diagnosis of our TCM specialist, and they will
advise you accordingly to your injury and body's needs.
