Back and Neck Computerized Decompression
physiotherapy refers to a therapeutic approach to relieving compressive forces within
a joint. Fundamentally, what we do is to provide a safe, distracting force to a
joint, providing a lot of pain relief and soft tissue stretch to joints such as
the back and neck, where there is compression force on them which may cause
pain, nerve problems and muscle aches.
This therapy is either done manually by
our physiotherapists, or the other is done via mechanical decompression support system. They
serve difference needs whilst achieving similar purposes: for the relief of
compressive forces within joints or soft tissues.
- Manual Approach is done by using a gentle
stretching, distracting force often applied as treatment at the neck, the back
or a joint, done manually by our therapists. It relieves compressive
forces on joints and soft tissues in the particular region. It is very
gentle, and is very sensitive approach.
- Computerized Decompression Traction is done using a machine,
calibrated by our physiotherapists according to your neck or back's need.
It is mainly used for people with a specific diagnosis, and for people
with very severe conditions of the discs within the neck and back. We will
prescribe only and whenever deemed appropriate for our patients.
Computerized decompression such as the one that we use in our clinics
are very specific, gentle and very gradual, where it is not pre-set parameters –
each patient will be given customized parameters, based on the assessments made
by the back and neck physiotherapist. Most of the time, the decompression
therapy will last between twenty to forty minutes, and to be extra careful, we
will give patients undergoing the procedure an emergency stop button (just in
case). To be honest, it’s never been used before – I’m assured and confident of my
physiotherapists’ clinical expertise.
On top of that, almost all patients get so relaxed whilst undergoing
this procedure (the decompression relaxes the muscles so much that it relaxes
patients a lot) that they often snooze on the traction table. Even I snooze on
it when I undergo it.
Yes, I do use this decompression therapy relatively frequently, for my
back and neck pains and aches.
