Stitches Removal Singapore
Stitches Removal Singapore
Following your wound care cleaning following open wound injuries from an injury or post orthopedic surgeries, once your wound has stabilized and healed, you will need to remove your stitches.
You can either go to the
- polyclinic (the most affordable, but also the longest wait)
- private GP (faster than polyclinic, but more pricey than polyclinic)
- specialist who did the procedure for you (most expensive and waiting time is varied)
- with us in Phoenix Rehab Group Singapore, which is appointment based
Most of the time, it will be around 14 days to 21 days following the first stitching, for the wound to stabilize and then be ready for the stitches to be removed.
Stitches Removal Singapore: How It's Done
Also known as "STO", short for "stitches take out", it is done using a STO Removal Set, and carefully with tweezers and sharp edged medical scissors - the tweezers to hold the stitch and the medical scissors to slip between the knots and cut, and the tweezers to remove the cut suture.
Usually, if all turns out well, the stitches can be removed within 5 minutes or lesser.
Some minor complications that can occur include having the stitch being "stuck" in the healed skin, which occasionally happen as the wound joins together - with a little gentle and cautious tug, it should come loose easily.
A slightly more moderate complication is that the wound didn't or hadn't joined enough, and with the removal of the stitches, the wound started to open - it'd had to be stuck together again using adhesives such as steristrip, and then monitored.
Once the stitches are removed, then you can continue with physiotherapy, to ensure that following your operation and wound management, you can quickly regain your full movement, function and performance again.
