Are you looking to improve your sports performance?
reached a “block” in your training and sports? If you find that no matter how
much you train, you cant seem to improve in your timings and distance, the very
thing that may be limiting you may be your muscles.
for muscles to function and perform at their optimal level, they need to be
well rested so that they will be relaxed and at an optimum length. Muscles that
are too short or long will cause it to be difficult to contract and relax,
impairing your muscular performance because your muscles have difficulty moving
together in the right direction of firing.
How does your muscles impact your performance?
Muscle tightness, strains and tension affects a
whole spectrum of performance sportsmen and sportswomen.
- Cyclists who have tight iliotibial bands (ITB) and
quads are not only ultra painful, they impair and limit one’s cycling cadence
(directly impairing performance) and over the mid to long term, will cause knee
- Runners who have tight hamstrings almost always
tends to have their strides shortened than normal – this means that every step
is shortened. How bad can this be? It may cause you to take three – four strides
compared to someone else of equal build as you who may only need two strides to
cover the same distance.
- Swimmers who have tight shoulder muscles will have
limited swim stroke – sub-optimal swim stroke means that you are performing
sub-optimally per stroke, leading to overall decrease in speed and higher risk
Bottom line – it’d take you more effort and time to
achieve the same distance.
Sports Massage Leads To Healthier Functioning Muscles
muscles can benefit from regular sports massage which helps to prevent the
muscles in your body to “stick together” or cause shortened/painful muscles.
This is key on top of the regular stretching.
the common misconceptions that people may have on sports massage is that it is
similar to a regular spa massage that is freely available – this is not true. Sports
massage refers to a scientific massage system which is built solidly on two key
factors: a sound massage techniques plus a set of advanced clinical
understanding of the human body and techniques.
our muscles are not just made up of just muscle fibres – they are a
super-complex structure that contains other supportive structures such as
fascia, blood vessels, nerves and other connective tissues. This is where the advanced
clinical understanding of the human body and techniques for them is crucial,
and it’s what that sets us apart from spas, beauty centres and other therapy
combine both approaches and techniques, sports massage helps to:
- Increase nutrient-rich
blood flow to tired muscles to accelerate recovery and shorten downtime
- Breaks down
those tight knots in muscles by mechanical pressure and stretch, and flushing
out lactic acid
the “used blood” back to the heart and lymphatic system, to bring a homeopathic
and healthy balance back to the body
muscles from risk of micro-tears, ruptures and strains (tight and tired muscles
are at much higher risk of tears and ruptures because of scar tissue, adhesions
and presence of lactic acid).
