Spinal Decompression Traction Physiotherapy
Spinal Decompression Traction Physiotherapy is created specifically for people suffering from spinal pains such as low back pain, back pain and neck pain. It's also safe for use with patients with disc-related back or neck pain as well.
Almost 1 in 5 individuals get back pain. Even school children is not exempted from this, as many children get back pain from school bags and playing.
For patients with pains, aches and stiffness in their backs and necks, after our physiotherapists has assessed your condition and determined the causes, and ascertained that traction is suitable for you, you will be introduced to a specific treatment called spinal decompression traction physiotherapy.
It's done on a specially designed medical bed, and connected to a traction device that is digitalized to suit the level of traction or pull that your spine needs. There is a safety button that will be given to you in case you find it's too uncomfortable, but to be frank, it's so comfortable that it has not been used once by any of our patients (so far) and most of our patients actually fall asleep on it.
Why do they fall asleep even though there's a traction force pulling their spine - won't that be uncomfortable?
Actually, no. Truth of the matter is that aches, pains and stiffness in the back or neck is actually quite uncomfortable, and most of the time, it disrupts sleep so much that patients are always tired.
What the traction device does is that is safely and gently provide the traction up to the comfortable/slightly uncomfortable position for best clinical results, and as result, patients get so comfortable, they fall asleep.
Of course, we have to wake them up to continue therapy, but patients are almost always very happy with the decreased pain.
How many sessions would you need?
That would depend on the severity of your condition (severe conditions take longer); the acuteness of your injury (acute injuries heal faster than chronic pain); age (younger patients tends to heal much faster, but even older patients heal too); compliance to home exercises prescribed by our physiotherapists; and the skill of the physiotherapists.
To be safe, it's usually between 8 to 12 sessions; sometimes less, sometimes more.
Is it safe?
It's cleared by
the FDA; so as long as the physio is experienced and has expertise in
the management of back and neck conditions, as well is well versed with
use of the spinal traction machine, you should be safe.
fact that Urbanrehab is highly selective of the physiotherapists they
work with, we have full confidence in our physiotherapists, who are
selected based on their experience and expertise.
How it works
dramatic decrease of pressure in the discs within your spine (the
decompression) will help to "draw back in" the bulging of the disc and
takes the pressure off the spinal nerves that are pinched by slipped discs.
spinal decompression traction physiotherapy helps to unload your spine
and its discs with fairly good results, and is suitable to treat
herniated discs, degenerative disc disorder, spinal joint diseases, spinal stenosis, sciatica, facet syndrome and radiculopathy.Return to Urbanrehab: Physiotherapy & Rehabiltation Specialists from our Spinal Decompression Traction Physiotherapy page
