Physiotherapy Arthritis Advice For Arthritis Patients

  1. Joint Protection - using methods of performing mobility and activities of daily living with the minimal amounts of stress to muscles and joints. This is primarily to reduce pain experienced, preserve joint integrity and conserve energy.

  2. Respect Pain - a patient's fear of pain can lead to unnecessary immobility and inactivity, and on the other end, disregard to pain can be disastrous on the joints. Patients need to learn to monitor his or her activities, and decide when to stop, and when to continue in the presence of pain. If it's more of a slight, minimal pain lasting less than 1 hour, it's usually okay to go on. If the pain intensity does not lessen, then it's best to stop and rest up.

  3. Balancing Rest Vs Work - rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease, and this can take a toll on financial, physical and emotional resources. Balancing between resting and engaging needs to be decided by the patients themselves.

  4. Use Larger Joints Always - larger joints such as the shoulder, naturally can tolerated weights much better than the wrist of thumb joints, so use bigger joints whenever possible.

  5. Stay Active - to maintain and build muscle strength and range of motion. Get a list of prescription exercises from your physiotherapy clinic, stick to it, and not just limit yourself to it. If possible, engage more actively as much as you can, of course.

  6. Use Leverage Whenever Possible - instead of exerting force unnecessarily, utilize tools such as carts, cars etc to maintain mobility whilst protecting the joints.

  7. Avoid Deformity-Causing Positions - proper joint positioning to prevent joint injuries and deformities.

  8. Conserve Energy - breakdown tasks to do what is necessary, and eliminate what is not. Prioritize to do the most important tasks to you first, then followed by secondary ones.

  9. Don't Stay In One Position For Too Long - static positions causes muscles to fatigue and shorten, as well as it takes its toll on the joints being in one position for too long. It's best to stand and stretch or take a short water break every 20-30 minutes to stretch the muscles and joints.

The best way to reduce joint pain, quite frankly, may simply be to pursue natural treatment for arthritis with a joint relief supplement with chondroitin and glucosamine. Multiple studies demonstrate these two compounds not only reduce joint pain, they may also protect cartilage and offer greater mobility. That's more that most arthritis medications offer, and probably safer as well.

Try Joint Relief Solution. A blend of natural ingredients, including glucosamine and chondroitin, it's also formulated with willow bark extract. You might be surprised to learn that willow bark has the same active ingredient as aspirin, and shows dramatic reduction in pain symptoms, with less reliance on NSAIDs as well.
