Relaxation Techniques
Physiotherapy and Deep Tissue Release Singapore

Knowing relaxation techniques is very important. No matter where you are, or what occupation you do, stress will almost always be a part of your daily routine.

There are a few types of stresses: the daily grind, which refers to stress from the experience of daily living e.g. missing the bus, crying babies etc; to large life-changing events such as loved ones passing away, getting married, moving homes etc - negative types of stresses can contribute to the development or the aggravation of pains, aches and illnesses, such as stomach problems, tension headaches, neck and back pain etc.

As physiotherapists, we believe that it is very important for us and our patients to better learn to control our actions and responses to things that stresses us (we term this as stressors), and to remain in control of ourselves, despite whatever circumstances, instead of allowing our stress and stressors to control the way we think and feel.

There are a few types of techniques that we employ and use during our physiotherapy or hand therapy sessions:

  1. Regulated Deep Breathing - also known as controlled breathing technique, we teach, show and demonstrate to our patients how to regulate their breathing depth and pattern to induce a state of relaxation and calm.

  2. Progressive Muscle Relaxation - a facilitated session where, using appropriate media and illumination (removal of environmental stressors), we help and facilitate our patients to relax their physical bodies and body part(s), part by part, from head to toe.

Research shows that relaxation methods, when successfully employed, results in deep muscle relaxations that greatly decreases frequency, occurrence and intensity of tension headaches, as well as aches and pains of the neck and back. It even helps to reduce anxiety and frustrations, allowing to to re-calibrate and re-focus objectively any issues or problems that you have with a more opened and relaxed approach.

These relaxation techniques will be taught to you as appropriate for you and your condition.

Regular deep tissue massage and sports massage therapists with our deep tissue massage therapist will help you relax, increase circulation and increase general well being. There's lots more advantages and benefits that of deep tissue release that can be found here.
