Podiatry Singapore - Fixing foot, ankle and toe problems

All too often, with persistent afflictions we tend to focus on the immediate problem rather than looking at the bigger picture. In the short term, these foot problems may seem easily treatable; but if the factors contributing to the problem are not thoroughly identified, then in the long term the problem is most likely to recur.

This is why here at Specialist Rehab Group Podiatry, we pride ourselves on our holistic approach to foot care. Assessing a patient’s physical condition is merely one aspect of creating an effective treatment plan. We believe it is essential to learn and discuss every patient’s medical history and lifestyle in detail, to carefully assess all possible factors that may have caused or are contributing to the problem.

We do not practice a “one-size fits all” approach. Instead, we treat each patient individually because each foot is truly unique. Specialist Rehab Group Singapore Podiatry understands that the needs of an athlete are vastly different from those of a housewife or a child. To offer you the best possible treatment, we will draw up a treatment plan tailored specifically to your requirements and the services of a multidisciplinary team - from Singapore’s top orthopedic and vascular surgeons to physiotherapists and massage therapists - may be engaged at your request.

Easy to understand terminology and real world examples are employed to ensure that you fully understand your condition and the various treatment options available to you.

Frequently Asked Questions on Singapore Podiatry

What is a podiatrist?

A podiatrist or "foot doctor", is a medical professional dedicated to the study and medical treatment of disorders related to the foot, ankle and lower limbs.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

Your typical day-to-day footwear (work and/or sports shoes) Wearing loose fitted clothing or shorts will also allow us to better assess the lower limbs.

Are treatments painful?

No. The majority of treatments are painless and our treatments are always executed with minimum discomfort to our patients.

My insoles are too big for my shoes and/or aren't comfortable. Is this normal?

No. A properly prescribed pair of insoles should fit the majority of everyday shoes. The main function of insoles is to alleviate pain, not cause it. At Specialist Rehab Group Singapore Podiatry, we will prescribe you insoles that are not only comfortable but also compatible with the majority of the shoes you own. In doing so, your injury will recover faster and is less likely to recur.

What should you expect if you make an appointment for orthotics?

A thorough check including assessing alignment, joint movement, bone, muscle and soft tissue of the foot, leg, back and sometimes up to the body will be carried out. It is important that the assessment includes non-weight bearing assessment (sitting) and weight bearing (standing) assessment.

A dynamic (walking and running) assessment is also very important. Our podiatrist will be able to explain all of their findings clearly. Once we have determined if there is an issue and what the cause is we will set out a treatment plan to get you back on track. The treatment plan may involve stretching or strengthening exercises and footwear advice.

For those patients doing barefoot sports our podiatrist may teach how to tape the foot, this can provide support to the foot and reduce pain levels. Our podiatrist will use the findings of their assessment to determine if you need orthotics to support the arch of the foot or realign foot position. If you feel that you would benefit from an assessment with our qualified podiatrist please call us and make an appointment.

Orthotic fitting and review

Our high quality custom made orthotics are made overseas in laboratories using CAD-CAM technology for accuracy and repeatability. They take 2 weeks to be made and shipped to Singapore. At your review appointment our podiatrist will assess your progress, go over and any stretching and strengthening regime, give footwear advice, fit the orthotic and carry out gait analysis. There will be a charge for this appointment.
