Deep Tissue Massage in Specialist Rehab Group Physiotherapy Clinics

Introduction to deep tissue massage -
Find yourself aching all over and constantly tired?

Do you find yourself oftentimes tired and aching all over without a definite and clear reason why? Or that you find yourself getting and more injuries even though you don’t participate intensely in sports? Don’t be surprised to find out that the thing that is contributing to all your ache and fatigue woes is also the same thing that will help increase your performance – your very own muscles.

For muscles to function at their optimal level, they need to be relaxed, well rested and at their optimal lengths. When they are not relaxed, well rested and at sub-optimal lengths, it’d take you a lot more effort to get the same level of productivity and performance from them on a “good day”.

You see, when they are tensed (unrelaxed), they become tight and shortened (sub-optimal length), they become difficult to move as they resist movement simply because they’re tight.

Sub-optimal Muscles = Sub-optimal Movement

Almost every one of us have sub-optimal muscles – we all have muscles that are shortened, tight and unrested (this problem is multiplied if you have high psychological and physically straining jobs) because of poor posture, repeated strains and high stress.

You know, muscle tightness affects a whole range of people:

  • Office workers may often get a lot of tightness in the neck, shoulder and upper back, and sometimes may have headaches caused by referred pain of trigger points
  • People who are often on the go often develop lots of pain in their heels, feet and ankles because of the tightening of the muscles and fascia from prolonged standing and walking and rushing
  • Frequent flyers often develop general tightness and ache globally from travel-related issues (difficulty sleeping due to unfamiliar beds, sleep lag etc)
  • And the list goes on

In a nutshell, all these muscle tightness will cause you to take more effort to get the same amount done. Example being a 20 minute assignment may take you 30 – 40 minutes simply because you need to rest more often/exert more force. Same work but more time needed. You will need more time of sleep just to get the same amount of energy than before – you will begin to see how this can all spiral out of control very quickly.

Deep Tissue Massage for Healthier and Productive Muscles

Beyond just stretching, tight and tense muscles will benefit much from regular deep tissue massage which is able to prevent “those tight spots” in your muscles.

Most of the time, patients don’t know the difference between clinical deep tissue massage versus the regular massage services and the benefits they carry. Clinical deep tissue massage entails two segments – a “clinical” segment and a “deep tissue massage” segment – it is a massage system combining solid massage techniques with clinical knowledge and techniques for therapeutic purpose.

Our muscles doesn’t just contain muscle fibres – truly, it is a super complex multi-structured physiological system containing fascia, blood vessels, nerves and other connective tissues. It’d require more clinical and advanced techniques to manage the smooth functioning of this muscle super-complex.

A clinical sports massage helps to

  • increase the blood flow to tired muscles, accelerating down time and recovery
  • break down the tight knots in our muscles by stretching and flushing them out
  • bring the flow of blood back to the heart and the lymphatic system, crucial to achieving and maintaining a healthy balanced body
  • prevent micro-tears, ruptures and strains (a tight and tired muscles are often impaired due to adhesions, scar tissues and prevalence of lactic acid, which increases risk of injury)
